INDIAN WELLS, Calif.(AP) Australian Open runner-up Justine Henin has been given a wild-card entry into the BNP Paribas Open next month.
The former world No. 1 and seven-time major champion won the tournament in 2004. It will be her first appearance in Indian Wells since 2006.
Henin has played in two events since returning to the WTA Tour in January after retiring in May 2008. She reached the finals at Brisbane and the Australian Open, where she lost in three sets to Serena Williams.
Other former champions in the Indian Wells field include top-ranked men's player Roger Federer, defending champion Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The women's field includes Maria Sharapova, Kim Clijsters and defending champion Vera Zvonareva.
The tournament is from March 8-21.
