The American teams of Lisa Raymond/Mike Bryan and Liezel Huber/Bob Bryan got their wish by being named as pairings in the 16-team Olympic mixed doubles competitio. Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, who was steamed when he was left out of the men’s doubles, was given a wild card into the mixed along with Samantha Stosur.

Other wild cards were handed to Britain’s Laura Robson/Andy Murray, Russia’s Elena Vesnina/Mikhail Youzhny and Sweden’s Sofia Arvidsson/Robert Lindstedt.

Outside of the United States, the only other countries with two teams were Germany, with Angelique Kerber/Philipp Petzschner and Sabine Lisicki/Christopher Kas, and Italy, with Roberta Vinci/Daniele Bracciali and Sara Errani/Andreas Seppi.

The other teams are: Argentina’s Gisela Dulko/Juan Martin del Potro; Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka/Max Mirnyi, the Czech Republic’s Lucie Hradecka/Radek Stepanek; India's Sania Mirza/Leander Paes; Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska/Marcin Matkowski, and Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic/Nenad Zimonjic.
