Holger Rune ends coaching collaboration with Severin Luthi, says his mother Aneke Rune

Holger Rune's collaboration with coach Severin Luthi is apparently over, less than two months after it began.

The Dane's mother and manager, Aneke Rune, revealed the news to the Danish newspaper *Ekstra Bladet* this week, and said that the split was rooted in scheduling conflicts. She also confirmed that the world No. 7 will move forward with Boris Becker and Danish ex-pro Kenneth Carlsen as his co-coaches.

"Don't want to make a big deal out of it, but the timing with Severin was clearly not right," she said. "It would be too few weeks for Severin to be able to cover for the continuity that Holger needs."

Rune announced on Dec. 20 that Luthi, famously Roger Federer's former coach and the Swiss Davis Cup captain, would join Becker as a coach on his team for 2024.

Luthi traveled with Rune to Australia, but his stay at the year's first major, the Australian Open, was much shorter than expected. As the No. 8 seed, Rune was bundled out of the tournament in the second round by French wildcard Arthur Cazaux.

Carlsen is not unfamiliar with Rune, having already worked with him for short stints since his youth—including in 2024's first week, when Rune finished runner-up to Grigor Dimitrov at the Brisbane International. Aneke Rune said that her son will have both Becker and Carlsen in his camp for "the majority of all the big tournaments."

"With ... Boris and Kenneth, Holger gets the flow he wants for his development and stability," she added. "For Holger, it is absolutely right to expand the planned collaboration with Kenneth, with whom he also trained for several periods during his junior years."

Rune is the top seed at this week's Open Sud de France in Montpellier. His campaign at the ATP 250 event will begin on Wednesday against Spain's Pablo Llamas Ruiz.
