"I want to keep going": Clijsters eager to return to the court again

Kim Clijsters had played just two events of her latest comeback before the tour was suspended. Despite the tough timing of the extended forced hiatus, her focus and determination to compete hasn't dwindled.

"I want to keep going," Clijsters said in a Facebook Live interview with Blair Henley for the International Hall of Fame.

The four-time Grand Slam champion is especially keen for the US Open, where she won her first Grand Slam before retiring and then won twice more when she returned to tour following the birth of her first daughter. She returned again this year for the first time since retiring in 2012.

"If there’s a potential US Open, I want to prepare for that, I want to be ready and give it a shot," the 37-year-old said, adding that she would especially like to get to play on Arthur Ashe Stadium again. "I have so many memories there and you just try to take it all in again."

Clijsters is eager to keep playing because she enjoyed her first experience back despite losing to Garbine Muguruza in Doha and Johanna Konta in Marbella. Though Clijsters got off to an understandably slow start against Muguruza, she played a tight second set against the recent Australian Open finalist.

"I was just excited to start," Clijsters said. "To my surprise, I wasn’t really that nervous. It felt very right to be there. It felt like the right choice. There was a player party afterwards, and we sat at the same table and talked a little bit."

As much as she likes competing, the mother of three likes the training, team environment and planning even more.

"I’m re-experiencing everything," the Belgian said. "What I love the most about it is the process working towards an event with my team. There’s great moments in there, but also tough times, with injuries, with disappointment. And it’s all good, because we’re all in it together, and we accept it and we talk and we communicate. That’s something that I really enjoy about it."

Now all the Belgian needs are some tournaments to aim towards.
