The 2024 Australian Open women’s draw has been revealed and top seed Iga Swiatek is projected to face 2023 finalist Elena Rybakina in the semifinals.

Rybakina defeated Swiatek in straight sets last year en route to her first final in Melbourne, where she lost in three thrilling sets to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka.

Sabalenka, defending champion and No. 2 seed, is projected to face reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff in the final four. The pair last played in Flushing Meadows, where the American teenager won her first major title. She will begin her title defense against a qualifier.

Swiatek, who drew 2020 champion Sofia Kenin in the first round and could play one of 2016 champion Angelique Kerber or 2022 finalist Danielle Collins in the second, headlines a stacked top quarter that features reigning Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova, who is seeded No. 7 Down Under, No. 11 seed Jelena Ostapenko, who defeated Swiatek at the US Open, and No. 19 seed Elina Svitolina, who defeated the Pole at Wimbledon.

Sabalenka’s quarter is anchored by No. 6 seed Ons Jabeur, who won their Wimbledon semifinal encounter last summer but lost in a hard-court rematch a month later at the Western & Southern Open. Her quarter also features a potential fourth-round challenge from No. 13 seed Liudmila Samsonova, who reached two WTA 1000 finals on hard courts in 2023.

As yet undefeated in 2024, Elena Rybakina will open against former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova, who played an impressive Brisbane International match against a resurgent Naomi Osaka.

Osaka is playing her first major tournament since leaving the game to give birth to daughter Shai, and is unseeded in Gauff’s quarter of the draw. She will open against No. 16 seed Caroline Garcia with a possible second round meeting against either Magdalena Freçh or Aussie wild card Daria Saville.

Gauff will play her first match against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova; her first seeded opposition would be No. 32 seed Leylah Fernandez, who reached the US Open final in 2021. Gauff is also undefeated to start the season, having defended her ASB Classic title in a three-set final against Svitolina.
