Even though she didn’t come away with the title, Iga Swiatek still had a strong showing in Wuhan last week, reaching the milestone 25th WTA 1000 quarterfinal of her career—she also completed her career set of WTA 1000 quarterfinals, with Wuhan having been the only one missing.
But with her $83,250 prize money cheque for reaching the quarterfinals in Wuhan, she now achieves something very big, surpassing Venus Williams for the second-most career prize money in WTA history.
Swiatek went into the WTA 1000 event with $42,862,240 and leaves with $42,945,490, edging past Venus’ career haul of $42,867,364 and now trailing only Serena Williams’ all-time women's record of $94,816,730.
