Victoria Azarenka has pulled the plug on her season to recover from an assortment of injuries. The former world No. 1 announced she will not play again in 2014 in a Facebook post.

"Unfortunately I will not be competing in any tournaments for the remainder of the season," Azarenka said. "It has been a very tough year for me. I have been trying my best to improve day in and day out by pushing and pushing…but that does not appear to be the best approach for me right now. I will use this time to work on making a full recovery and take care of my body to compete at my best next season."

Lucky loser Annika Beck has replaced Azarenka in the Wuhan draw and will face American Coco Vandeweghe.

The 25th-ranked Belarusian has battled left foot and right knee injuries that have limited her to 22 matches this season. Azarenka was bothered by the foot injury losing in the opening round of Indian Wells in March. She was sidelined for nearly three months before returning at Eastbourne. Azarenka advanced to the U.S. Open quarterfinals, but has not played since.
