John Isner, who suffered a 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third round of the U.S. Open (that ended at 2:26 am Monday morning, tying a tournament record for the latest match in Flushing Meadows), ended his Grand Slam season with his fourth fifth-set loss. Isner also lost five-setters at the Australian Open (to Feliciano Lopez); Roland Garros (to Paul Henri-Mathieu) and Wimbledon (to Alejandro Falla).
The American, who admitted to playing too passively in the fifth set and added that the humidity had drained him in the three-hours and 20-minute defeat, summed up his Grand Slam season as, "Bad, terrible. It’s not good at all."
