LorenzoCarboni

At just 19 years old, Italy’s Lorenzo Carboni is steadily carving out his path on the ATP Challenger Tour. Born and raised in Alghero, Sardinia, the world No. 429, which marks a personal career-high ranking, is known for his quick feet, relentless movement, and strong mentality—qualities that make him a tough competitor on any surface.

Early Steps and Training

Carboni’s tennis journey began on the Italian island of Sardinia, but at 13, he made a bold decision: to leave home and train at the prestigious Piatti Tennis Center in Bordighera, located in the Liguria region, near the French border.

“When I was 13, I decided to go to the Piatti Academy for practice,” he recalls. “It’s a good experience, also for life.” That move gave him a professional structure early on, shaping both his game and his mindset.

Game Style and Role Model

“My legs and footwork are probably my strengths, as I am pretty fast,” Carboni explains. “I can reach many balls and put pressure on my opponents.” His speed and defensive skills are key weapons, though like any young player, he continues to refine other areas of his game.

His inspiration comes from Novak Djokovic, a player he deeply admires. “I like his movement and mentality on the court. He is an amazing player and person.”

First Breakthrough and Goals

Carboni earned his first ATP Challenger main draw match win on home soil in Como in 2023, a milestone he remembers fondly. “It was an amazing experience. I played very well, and I was very happy afterwards,” the teenager said.

In 2025, he lifted two ITF World Tennis Tour titles in Lesa, Italy and Monastir, Tunisia, signaling steady progress and growing confidence. “What I need is consistency,” he says. “That’s the key to this sport, and it’s what I need to take the next step. I’ve been working hard to find it, and I can say things are going pretty well so far.”

Off-Court Passions

Away from the court, Carboni enjoys spending time with friends and playing video games. “I try to be with them as often as possible, as they support me a lot. They call me almost every day. That’s a pleasure,” says the football fan, who supports Juventus Turin.

A Special Week in Sardinia

Last week was particularly meaningful for Carboni as he competed in his home tournament, the Olbia Challenger. He battled his way through the qualifying of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 hard-court event, eventually losing in the first round of the main draw against top seed Alejandro Tabilo in three hard-fought sets.

However, playing in Sardinia always brings extra energy and emotion to the youngster. “Mom and Dad are here, they drove three hours to watch me play, and winning in front of them is really special. I have to thank the people who supported me,” the home favorite stated last week.

With speed, determination, and a clear vision for his future, Lorenzo Carboni is a name to watch on the Challenger Tour.
