LINZ, Austria (AP) Despite being docked a game for a time violation, Ana Ivanovic defeated Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals of the Generali Ladies.
Ivanovic asked for a bathroom break after the opening game of the match on Thursday. The umpire gave her four penalty points - effectively a whole game - upon her return for taking too much time.
The chair umpire said she was docked one point for every 20 seconds she went over the time limit.
Ivanovic blamed it on ``a miscommunication,'' saying she thought she had been allowed to leave the court.
Ivanovic will play Julia Goerges, who beat fifth-seeded Petra Kvitova 6-2, 6-1.
