Twenty-three-year-old Janice Tjen has broken into the Top 100 on the WTA rankings, becoming the first Indonesian player to be ranked in the elite in more than 21 years, since Angelique Widjaja in 2004.

The former college tennis star rises from No. 102 to No. 99 this week. She got within striking distance of the Top 100 three weeks ago after reaching her first WTA final in Sao Paulo—she rose from No. 130 to No. 103 after that, then to No. 102 two weeks ago, and now to No. 99.

Widjaja spent her last two weeks in the Top 100—at No. 100—from January 19th to February 1st, 2004, during that year’s Australian Open.

Tjen’s Top 100 debut is even more incredible given she was unranked 16 months ago. After graduating from Pepperdine University, she won 13 ITF Circuit titles in 12 months, between June 2024 and June 2025. She was ranked No. 149 going into the US Open this summer.

She then played the first tour-level event of her career in Flushing Meadows, qualifying and reaching the second round. She was the first Indonesian woman to win a main-draw match at a Grand Slam tournament since Widjaja in 2003 (at Roland Garros).

Then, in the second tour-level event of her career in Sao Paulo a few weeks ago, she made it all the way to the first WTA final of her career, becoming the first Indonesian woman to do that since, again, Widjaja, in 2002 (when she captured the title in Pattaya City, Thailand).

And today, the firsts keep coming for the rising star from Jakarta.

Tjen isn’t the only notable mover on the new WTA rankings.

Fresh off her first WTA 1000 final in Beijing, 20-year-old Czech Linda Noskova makes her Top 20 debut, rising from No. 27 to No. 17.

France's Lois Boisson, who made headlines around the world with her run to the semifinals of Roland Garros this year, makes her Top 40 debut, rising from No. 41 to No. 38 after reaching the third round in Beijing, where she picked up the first two WTA 1000 wins of her career.

A few spots down from Boisson, Germany’s Eva Lys cracks the Top 50, rising from No. 66 to No. 45 after reaching the first WTA 1000 quarterfinal of her career in the Chinese capital.

And there are two more Top 100 debuts: Australia’s Priscilla Hon rises from No. 108 to No. 95 after reaching the third round in Beijing as a qualifier; and Switzerland’s Simona Waltert rises from No. 116 to No. 98 after playing two clay-court tournaments below tour-level during Beijing, winning a $100,000 ITF Circuit event in Lisbon, Portugal and reaching the quarterfinals of a WTA 125K event in Rende, Italy.

There are no new ATP rankings this week as the men are in the middle of the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. The next rankings update for both the ATP and the WTA will take place next Monday.
