Defending Indian Wells champion Jelena Jankovic, who was struggling mightily with her form up until last month, says that she cannot be a happy person on court if she’s not performing up to snuff.
"I don't think anybody can really enjoy, when you're playing really badly and you're frustrated with your game and you're not doing what you're supposed to do," said Jankovic, who crushed U.S. teen CoCo Vandeweghe in the first round. "Your game is really not there. I don't know one person no matter how positive you are, that you're gonna be really enjoying it and having a smile on your face. You hit the ball like for the 100th time out, you're gonna be, Ah, nice [smiling]? That's the reality. But outside the tennis court I'm always a positive girl."—Matthew Cronin
