ROME—Pesky rain has taken over the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, jeopardizing the chances of Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev completing their semifinal on Friday evening in Rome.

Sinner led 6-2, 5-7, 4-2, with Medvedev serving at ad-in when chair umpire Aurélie Tourte called for play to be suspended. The Italian had questioned the conditions, after missing a break point chance earlier in the game, resulting in a discussion with Tourte before the decision was made.

The world No. 1 appeared not to be fully fit leading up to the stoppage, leaning over in a corner of the court while trailing 1-3 in the second set and later taking a medical timeout during the deciding set’s 3-2 changeover.

Sinner is bidding to complete a Career Golden Masters on home soil and is carrying a record 32-match win streak at the ATP Masters 1000 level. Medvedev is a former champion here, having triumphed in 2023 for his first clay-court crown.
