Jannik Sinner has now won 50 matches in a row against players ranked outside the Top 20

Jannik Sinner achieved a number of things with his 6-2, 7-6 (6) win over Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals of Beijing on Monday.

First of all, he’s now through to his milestone 10th semifinal of the year. It’s been a good round for him, too—he’s 6-3 in the first nine.

Second of all, he extended his winning streak to 14 matches in a row. He went 4-0 en route to the title in Cincinnati, 7-0 en route to the US Open title, and he’s gone 3-0 so far in Beijing this week.

Also, it was his 58th win of the year, which now makes him the standalone leader for most wins on the men’s tour this year. He was previously tied with No. 2-ranked Alexander Zverev at 57.

And there's one more incredible stat: with his latest victory over the No. 37-ranked Lehecka, Sinner has now won his last 50 matches in a row against players ranked outside the Top 20.

He’s 40-0 against players ranked outside the Top 20 this year, and he won his last 10 matches against them last year.

The last player ranked outside the Top 20 to beat Sinner was Dusan Lajovic, a former No. 23, who was ranked No. 66 when he defeated the Italian in the second round of Cincinnati last year, 6-4, 7-6 (4), on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023—exactly 411 days ago.
