Jannik Sinner vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime: Match Preview
The first quarterfinal match of the tournament pits the world No. 1, Sinner, against world No. 28 (but former No. 6) Auger-Aliassime.
Sinner is on fire—not only is he on a 10-match winning streak on the tour, a run that includes seven wins en route to the Wimbledon title and three wins so far here, but he’s also on a 24-match winning streak on hard courts, having not lost on this surface since last October.
Auger-Aliassime has had Sinner’s number in the past, though, winning both of the pair’s previous meetings, both in 2022, a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the third round of Madrid and a 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1 victory in the quarterfinals of Cincinnati.
That match here was particularly memorable, as Sinner not only led by a set and a break at 6-2, 4-2 with a point to hold for 6-2, 5-2, but—after losing that break—he even held double match point with Auger-Aliassime serving at 5-6, 15-40 in the second set. The Canadian won 11 of the next 12 points to sneak out the set, then cruised to victory in the third.
The Italian will be on a revenge mission in Cincinnati today.
