Jessica Pegula swipes Sabalenka’s cocktail, then raises a Honey Deuce to heartbreak

We’re rounding up the best viral tennis moments of 2025, and kicking things off is Jessica Pegula—a player whose post-defeat treats have earned her internet fame more than once.

The American, who famously drank a Heineken during a 2022 US Open press conference and once celebrated her birthday with a post-loss bag of Doritos, delivered a few more memorable moments in 2025.

After world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Pegula in straight sets to win her first Miami Open title, Sabalenka stopped by the Tennis Channel desk for a champion’s chat with Martina Navratilova and Prakash Amritraj. In a celebratory mood, she sipped a “Marg-Aryna,” her signature Maestro Dobel Tequila drink, during the interview.

That’s when Pegula was spotted sneaking up behind her. She not only took a sip of Sabalenka’s drink but casually walked off with it. Before she departed, the two clinked cups, with Sabalenka briefly borrowing Navratilova’s drink to join the toast.

“That’s why I like this girl! She’s the best,” Sabalenka said, laughing.

When the pair met again in the US Open semifinals—a rematch of last year’s final—it was more heartbreak for Pegula. After taking an early lead, she saw Sabalenka rally to a 4–6, 6–3, 6–4 victory.

Pegula didn’t dwell on the disappointment. Instead, she took to social media to poke fun at tennis’ cruel margins: “When you lost 4 points on serve in the 3rd but you lost the match,” she captioned a selfie—with the US Open's famous Honey Deuce cocktail in hand.

While her post-defeat pick-me-ups remain elite, Pegula also had plenty to celebrate in 2025. She won three titles (Bad Homburg, Charleston, Austin) and finished the season ranked world No. 6.
