Joao Fonseca v. Tristan Schoolkate: Match Preview
As far as career tracks go, Fonseca is on the express, while Schoolkate is has ridden the local.
The Brazilian is just 18, but he’s already in the Top 50, has won a title, has a 15-11 record this season, travels the main tour and is expected to rapidly rise to greater heights. In baseball terms, he’s in The Show, and may be the rookie of the year.
Schoolkate is a 24-year-old Australian who spends the bulk of his time on the ATP Challenger Tour and in qualifying draws. He’s been around the world and back again this year, playing smaller events from Pune, India to Cary, North Carolina. He’s never won an ATP title, or cracked the Top 100. But he’s close—No. 103 as of today. Schoolkate’s main claim to fame may be taking a set from Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open. It was one of only two that the Italian dropped in the tournament.
