LONDON–Angelique Kerber says having experienced a Grand Slam final before should help her ahead of the Wimbledon final.
The German defeated Serena Williams to win her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open, and will play the world No. 1 again at Wimbledon.
"For sure I will be nervous, like before every single match,” Kerber told reporters. “But I think that, right now, I can handle it better. When I'm going on court, after the first few games, I think I will not be so nervous than before.”
It is the first time since 2006 that two women’s players will meet in more than one Grand Slam final in a season. But Kerber said the different surface would affect the players.
"I think it will be [a] completely new match because we are playing here on grass,” the 28-year-old said. “It's a little bit different, the game style. I will try to go [on court] being confident, believe in myself that I can beat her. I think this is also the key for tomorrow, to believe in my game and myself, showing her I deserve to be in the final."
Kerber has not dropped a set on her way to the final.
