WIMBLEDON, England (AP) Kimiko Date-Krumm became the second oldest women to win a match at Wimbledon, beating Katie O'Brien 6-0, 7-5 Monday in the first round.
The 40-year-old Japanese veteran, the third oldest women to compete at Wimbledon in the Open era and the oldest in this year's draw, came out of retirement in 2008 but lost in the first round the last two years at the All England Club.
Her best Wimbledon result came in 1996, when she reached the semifinals but lost to eventual champion Steffi Graf.
Date-Krumm has won eight titles in her career, with her most recent coming in Seoul in 2009. That win came on her 39th birthday, making her the second oldest player in the Open era to win a WTA singles title after Billie Jean King in 1983.
