HALLE, Germany (AP) Philipp Kohlschreiber eliminated defending champion Lleyton Hewitt 7-6 (4), 6-3 Friday in the Gerry Weber Open.
Fellow German Philipp Petzschner advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 victory over eighth-seeded Milos Raonic of Canada.
Hewitt got in three matches this week in his first tour play since March because of foot and ankle injuries.
Kohlschreiber will face either sixth-seeded Florian Mayer or third-seeded Gaels Monfils for a spot in Sunday's final.
