Nick Kyrgios isn't known for being consistent, except when it comes to challenging the big names.

The 23-year-old Australian is 6-6 against the trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, and tends to lift his game when playing the best players.

Speaking to the Daily Mail at Miami this week, Kyrgios revealed the approach behind his success against the tour's most successful players.

While few other players have the firepower and shotmaking ability Kyrgios does, the No. 33 says it starts with confidence.

"I back myself," he said, first concentrating on serving big, and on playing with the right tactics.

According to Kyrgios, Federer is "unbelievably talented and the greatest of all time," but "gets tired" during "tight" moments in a match.

Djokovic, meanwhile, has problems with "short balls," and "doesn't like to come forward." And though his serving has improved, Kyrgios says the Serb can still be "shaky" on his second delivery.

And he likes to "expose" Nadal's tendency to stand far behind the baseline. "Rafa loves to be defensive so you can really push through his forehand," he said.

From there, adds Kyrgios, it's just a question of pulling off the shots. "So they do have weaknesses and if you play the right way and execute it right under pressure then they can be beaten," he said. "You just have to play the right way and for the stars to align. Of course they are a level above all of us, but they are definitely beatable."

Responding to Nadal recently describing him as "lacking respect," Kyrgios noted it was important not to be too conscious of their status when playing them.

"They’ve already got the advantage with always playing on the best courts in the best conditions, all that sort of stuff, so I don’t know why you would give them inches," he said. "Obviously what they do for the sport is huge, they inspire millions around the globe. But when I’m on the court we are competing and I’m not trying to be your friend."
