Mornin'. We had a good time at the Dublin House last night, with Lindsay giving us constant updates via her iPhone on the doings on Ashe; we were just leaving the joint as Dementieva once again extinguished the hopes of those who still hold out and believe she'll win a major. In fact, it was a rough day all around for contenders.

One of the premier male championships in waiting also stumbled. I think y'all know of whom I speak. My take on it was simple. You simply must beat the Stan Wawrinkas of this world if you hope to win a major. I know Wawrinka played very well, yadda-yadda-yadda. But look, you get the first set off one of those second-tier players and you just have to find a way to win—period. No further analysis required. No need to cry me a river. No lengthy explanations accepted.

I really liked the crowd that gathered at Dublin House last night, so thanks, Jackie-Oh!, for putting it all together. The back room at Dublin House isn't long on ambience or amenities, but we had it to ourselves, actually could hear each other speak, and the booze flowed freely, much if it in the direction of Ms. I Come to Play, a.k.a. JB.

Saw a lot of old friends and made some new ones. This is a pretty diverse group of folks here at TW. For example I met Kristy Eldredge last night; I think she's a lurker, although it's hard to keep tabs on such things these days, given how the TWibe has grown. Eldredge is a comedienne, you can check out her work at YouTube; just search under the name mmechauchat. Then there was Joella (am I even spelling it right?), who's a legal aid lawyer and might be contributing to our pal Ubaldo Scanagatta's blog in the near future (on the English page).

Steve Tignor and Easy Ed McGrogan had a long day at the National Tennis Center, as did I, and they turned out, too. So you Concrete Elbow fans missed out if you weren't there. Anyway, I'm heading out now, with LIsa and Luke (who will undoubtedly spend the day in the Smash zone), and the matches are getting underway. Talk about them here, and have a fine Labor Day.
