ACAPULCO, Mexico — Lesia Tsurenko of the Ukraine won the title at the Aiberto Mexicano Telcel by defeating Kristina Mladenovic, 6-1, 7-5.
For Tsurenko, it was her third career singles victory, having triumphed in Guangzhou, China, last year and Istanbul in 2015. Mladenovic, this year's champion in St. Petersburg, was going for her second title in five weeks.
The Acapulco final got off to a stellar start for Tsurenko as she won the first four games of the opening set in a few minutes time, soon wrapping it up, 6-1.
The second set started off with each other breaking serve through the first eight games. Mladenovic held her serve first, and Tsurenko followed suit. At 5-5, Tsurenko broke Mladenovic's serve, then closed out the match in her own service game to take home the title.
