Li Na credits Danish coach Michael Mortensen for spurring her run to the Roland Garros final. Since Mortenson joined up with Li in early May, she has reached the semifinals of Madrid, Rome and now has reached her second consecutive Grand Slam final. Li went on a four-match losing streak after the Australian Open and decided it was best to try a new coach rather than just having her husband Jiang Shan coach her. Mortensen used to serve as No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki’s technical coach.
"I still happy with what he do," she told reporters. “He's working so hard with me, and for my team. He's trust me a lot. He give me a lot of confidence. Also, he say, 'You know, every person have the mistake, so I should give the chance to have the mistake.'
Li is unsure whether their coaching arrangement will last beyond Roland Garros. "We will talk about after French Open if we continue or not," she said. "Because he has a family, so I would like to ask him how many weeks he can traveling with me."
