Line Calls presented by FanDuel Sportsbook: Humbert vs. Chardy

Don't read into Lorenzo Sonego's 6-4, 6-4, loss in Montpellier to eventual champion David Goffin too much, as the Belgian was the player to beat all week. Sonego is still a rising talent, and owns a 9-3 record on indoor courts since last October.

After starting 2020 in fantastic form, with wins over Grigor Dimitrov in Australia and Alexander Zverev in Acapulco, it seems the five-month pandemic hiatus was not exactly what Tommy Paul needed. Since the ATP Tour resumed, Paul is 9-11 in main draws, and has won consecutive matches just once (Nur Sultan).

According to UTR's three-month trending rating, Sonego has a clear advantage. Expect this match to be close, but ultimately Sonego's confidence should push him through to the second round.

Another bet to keep an eye on Tuesday in Rotterdam is Jeremy Chardy +3.5 games against Frenchman Ugo Humbert. After a sensational end of season run, winning the Antwerp title and reaching the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters, it appears Humbert has taken a slight step backwards.

Humbert should win this match, but against Chardy's huge serve, a tie-break seems imminent. In his last 10 matches, Humbert has played 13 tie-break sets. Humbert has struggled to break serve in the new year, and has endured some surprising losses—most notably against James Duckworth in Melbourne.

Expect Humbert to find his peak form sometime soon, but until he does, it seems he is slightly overvalued thanks to his strong finish to 2020.
