Australian Open champion Madison Keys pulled off a Houdini act (again) this season to reach the quarterfinals of the Omnium Banque Nationale in Montreal.

The sixth-seeded American saved two match points on serve in the 10th game of a tense third set to defeat No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to return to the last eight in Canada for the first time since she reached the final in 2016.

While she's been a stranger to the business end of the WTA 1000 north of the border for much for the last decade, Keys has been much more familiar with dramatic escapes of late: The Australian Open champion has now won from match point down three times in 2025 following her victories over Iga Swiatek in the Australian Open semifinals and Sofia Kenin in the Roland Garros third round.

"I'm really happy to get that win," Keys said in her on-court interview. "She's such a great player and she's always such an opponent to go up against, and to be able to, after losing the first set, and even being match point down, being able to figure it out, it's always a great day."

Keys' "great day" came as a result of some bold play when she needed it most deep in the two-hour, 20-minute match. She had previously failed to convert a 0-40 opportunity on Muchova's serve at 2-2 in the final set, and the Czech kept the pressure on by continuing to hold serve.

After Keys' sixth double fault of the match gave Muchova 30-40, Keys walloped a first-ball forehand that kissed the sideline, and ran Muchova back to the next corner to wipe away the first opportunity. Six points later in the four-deuce game, she spun a first serve in facing the second match point, and a befuddled Muchova missed her return wide.

From there, Keys won 10 of the last 12 points of the match to improve her head-to-head against Muchova to 2-0, though they last played in 2019.

For a spot in the semifinals, Keys will face the winner of Sunday's first night match between No. 2 seed Swiatek or No. 16 seed Clara Tauson.
