LUXEMBOURG (AP)—Rebecca Marino rallied past second-seeded Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the Luxembourg Open on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old Marino of Canada had lost in the first round in seven of her last eight tournaments.

Eighth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova also lost, falling 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-1 to Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic.

Elena Baltacha of Britain served for the first set against sixth-seeded Julia Goerges but eventually went down 7-5, 6-1.

Top-seeded Victoria Azarenka opens against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova on Wednesday.
