Canada’s Rebecca Marino, who took seven months off due to physical and mental burnout, tells the Canadian press that she thinks she made the right decision.

Marino, who was ranked a career-high No. 38 in July of 2011, had fallen to No. 767 before winning a $25,000 Challenger in Rock Hill, S.C., on Sunday. During her break, she didn’t touch a racquet for four months and spent time at home in Vancouver with her family and friends.
“It was definitely a difficult decision to take some time off,” the 21-year-old said. “It was just at the beginning of the year/middle of the year. It’s never easy to take a step back. I was at the point where my body was telling me I needed a break. And I just thought in order to prolong my career, and make sure that I’m able to perform at my peak, it was ultimately the best decision. And I’m still fully confident I made the right decision.”
