Young Canadian Rebecca Marino and her coach Simon Larose have split, the Montreal Gazette reports. "We decided we should mutually stop. It was going quite well, we had two good years together, and he’s a really good coach, but sometimes things come to an end," Marino said. "We got to that stage in our relationship where we thought we didn’t want to drag things out and not make things work, so we decided to stop while we were having a good go."
Marino should finish the season ranked No. 65, up about 35 spots from last year, but after reaching the Memphis final, she had a difficult time putting together positive results during the spring and summer seasons. "I found at the higher level that even if you just give them the tiniest amount of breathing room, they find a way to get back into the match,” said the 20-year-old, who reached a career high No. 38 in July. “Not that you don’t see that at the (lower) ITF level, but it’s every single girl—a totally different level of fight. I’m glad I was able to get through my first year and understand that now. Next year I’ll give a lot more girls a run for their money."
