American Bethanie Mattek-Sands reaches her first WTA Premier (Tier II) semifinal in two-and-a-half years when she upends sixth seed Andrea Petkovic 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3 at the Paris Indoors. She’ll play young Czech sensation Petra Kvitova in the semifinals.
It was a rematch of their meeting at the U.S. Open, when Mattek held three match points at 5-4 in the third set but went down 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
The two could face off again in Fed Cup in early April, when the United States takes on Germany.
