Bethanie Mattek-Sands has suffered a small tear in her right shoulder, she said in a statement. After consulting with her medical team, coach and trainer, Mattek-Sands pulled out of the Rogers Cup in Toronto this week.
"The fact that I have to think about it during certain shots makes it even more uncomfortable,” Mattek-Sands said. “I still am out practicing each day, but most of my practice is done left handed. I still work on all my movement drills and so on, which is continuing to make me a better player each day. Let’s hope this week goes well and I am able to string some days together without the pain."?
No. 31 Mattek Sands is hoping to return in Cincinnati next week and is also entered in Dallas the week prior to the U.S. Open. "The shoulder is coming along, no doubt, but with any injury, you want to make sure you're fully recovered and feeling as good as you can before you step on the court to compete."
