VALENCIA, Spain (AP) Juan Monaco of Argentina ousted defending champion Andy Murray 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 Wednesday in the second round of the Valencia Open.

The top-seeded Murray began sluggishly and lost his opening service game. He was broken five times total, including twice in the third set.

The 23-year-old Scot had attended his brother Jamie's wedding as best man last week.

In other matches, Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay beat Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 6-4, while Marcel Granollers of Spain defeated France's Benoit Paire 6-2, 6-4. Frenchman Gael Monfils bested Eduardo Schwank of Argentina 6-3, 6-3.
