Robin Soderling and Andy Murray have landed in the same quarter of the men's draw at the Australian Open, appropriate given their recent exchange of the No. 4 and No. 5 rankings. The winner of that section could face a semifinals against top seed Rafael Nadal.
The most dangerous floater in the draw, Juan Martin del Potro, landed away from the big names, in a section containing Jurgen Melzer and Marcos Baghdatis. The men's field did get a blockbuster first-round match when Lleyton Hewitt and David Nalbandian were drawn against each other.
Roger Federer is in the second half of the draw, with Gael Monfils, Americans Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish as well as compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka. Novak Djokovic leads the third quarter, with Nikolay Davydenko and Fernando Verdasco also lurking.
Nadal could get the winner of a match between John Isner and Marin Cilic in the fourth round. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga gets Philipp Petzschner in the first round while Ivo Karlovic, returning from surgery, looms for Djokovic in the second round.
