Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Paris/Bercy Masters and the ATP World Tour Finals in London, the ATP announced.
"It’s disappointing for me to miss the last two tournaments of the season in Paris and London, but it doesn't come as a surprise,” he said. “I will hopefully resume my tennis practice soon since I am making good progress with my recovery from injury. I am not ready to compete in time for these events so I will continue my recovery in Mallorca and work hard to be back as soon as possible."
Nadal has been sidelined with knee trouble since Wimbledon. He has yet to rule out playing in the Davis Cup final (November 16-18) against the Czech Republic, but in a recent interview with CNN, it didn’t sound like he feels he should compete.
"My biggest goal is to compete at Australian Open," he said. "About the Davis Cup final, of course I would love to take part in it, but first I have to see if I will be ready technically and physically. We would have to ask whether I am the right choice to compete in a Spanish team that has been long preparing for this important tie considering also the months I have spent without playing. But that's a decision that it's not mine."
