BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP)—David Nalbandian advanced to the quarterfinals of the Copa Telemex in his native Argentina with a hard-fought 6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (7) win over Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver on Wednesday.

Nalbandian's victory comes in his first tournament in nine months after he was sidelined following hip surgery.

In other results in the outdoor clay-court event, Santiago Ventura of Spain defeated seventh-seeded Victor Hanescu of Romania 6-4, 7-6 (10), and fifth-seeded Albert Montanes of Spain defeated countryman Pablo Andujar 6-3, 6-2.
