Naomi Osaka vs. Ariana Arseneault: Match Preview
Canadians have tended to play well in Canada over the past decade, which is good, because Arseneault is going to have to raise her normal level quite a bit to make this match competitive. The 23-year-old Ontario native and former U.S. college player is ranked 515th—four spots off her career high. She’s had more success in doubles, where she’s ranked 122nd. Osaka, of course, has been No. 1 in the world.
What does Arseneault have going for her? She qualified for the main draw, so she may be a little more used to the courts. Osaka is coming off a disappointing loss to Emma Raducanu in D.C., and, at No. 51, is still not close to her Slam-winning form of the past. And the Canadian fans should help. But Arseneault may need a lot of more of it than they can muster. Winner: Osaka
