INDIANAPOLIS(AP) The NCAA has denied an appeal by former TCU men's tennis coach Joey Rive (ruh-VAY') over violations of phone contact rules with international athletes.
Rive argued there wasn't enough evidence to conclude he made 105 improper calls to recruits from 2002 to 2006. He also said the NCAA erred in classifying the violations as major. The NCAA Division I Infractions Appeals Committee denied both claims Friday.
TCU reported the violations and was placed on two years' probation last February. Rive was banned from serving on NCAA committees for two years. He resigned in 2006 when the allegations became public.
The NCAA called TCU's failure to monitor contact with international recruits significant because of previous violations.
