New Beginnings: Svitolina joins forces with recently retired Baghdatis

Elina Svitolina has announced that former No. 8 Marcos Baghdatis is now a member of her coaching team, joining Andrew Bettles.

“I’m very excited to announce this news and I’m confident his strong experience will add value to my game, said Svitolina. “With such a great coaching team, I have set high objectives for 2020.”

Baghdatis is a former Australian Open finalist and Wimbledon semifinalist. He retired from the tour in July, making Wimbledon his final event. He finished in the Top 100 for 12 consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2016. He won four career ATP singles title and one doubles trophy.

Excited about starting his “new chapter of his life,” the 34-year-old Cypriot took to social media to share the news.

In October, Svitolina came close to defending her WTA Finals title, losing to Ashleigh Barty in the championship match. For the first time since 2012, she ended her season without capturing a title, but did enjoy her best major results thanks to consecutive semifinal showings at Wimbledon and the US Open.
