Former Aussie Davis Cup captain John Newcombe says that in order to get to the top, No. 6 Samantha Stosur must improve her backhand.
"I think if she could improve her backhand she'd have a real possibility of becoming No. 1," Newcombe told the Sydney Morning Herald. "I'd give her backhand probably a six out of 10, and if she could get that up to a seven and a half or an eight out of 10, she could become No. 1."
Stosur doesn't totally agree with his assessment.
''Of course I could improve my backhand; there's lots of things I'd like to be better at, but I've got a pretty good forehand, so I guess I can make up for that in other ways," she sad. "I think not too many people have flawless games besides Roger [Federer].
"[My backhand] is not as good as my forehand but I can't say I lose too many matches because of my backhand at the moment. I think it's got better and better and I know that girls probably try to hit to that side a bit more than my forehand and that's probably made it get better and I'm aware of that."âMatthew Cronin
