Nick Kyrgios created confusion by telling the Brisbane Courier-Mail that he had brought on a new coach before making fun of the claim on social media.

Following his opening-round win at Tokyo, the 23-year-old Kyrgios told the newspaper he had hiredveteran doubles specialist James Cerretani.

"James is my coach now—you can quote me on that one," it quoted Kyrgios as saying. "We've been talking on the phone a lot, but starting in Tokyo it's the first week we have been working together officially."

But he then wrote on social media that it was an example of giving the press "ridiculous information and they completely go with it."

Kyrgios has been largely coach-less for most of his career on the ATP tour.
