TC LIVE: Did Kyrgios have fair points in his Miami meltdown?

Nick Kyrgios has been handed down $35,000 worth of fines by the ATP for his behavior during a fourth-round loss to Jannik Sinner at the Miami Open.

The Australian, who gained entry into the event thanks to a wild card, was hit with four separate offenses: $20,000 for verbal abuse, $5,000 for an audible obscenity and $10,000 for two instances of unsportsmanlike conduct.

There was no indication that any prize money or ranking points earned would be forfeited as a result of his misconduct. This course of action will surely add to the growing narrative of the ATP’s broken system on how they discipline players.

While Kyrgios is no longer in the singles draw, he’s still active in the 1000-level tournament. On Thursday, he plays for a spot in the men’s doubles final with Thanasi Kokkinakis.

The two are guaranteed to split no less than $120,520 in prize money (pre-tax) and can raise their haul to $225,900 with a win over Hubert Hurkacz and John Isner, and $426,010 by winning the title. Kyrgios also earned $94,575 for his run to the fourth round.

The 26-year-old was recently fined $25,000 for his outbursts at Indian Wells.
