On Thursday, Nick Kyrgios announced he had signed a deal with OnlyFans. By Friday, the former Wimbledon finalist used the platform to announce his withdrawal from the 2024 Australian Open.

"Obviously heartbreaking. I've had so many amazing memories there and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right and I need a little more time,” Kyrgios explained.

“I was so close to winning a Grand Slam—I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back, so please bear with me.”

Kyrgios will be unranked when he returns to action.

It will mark the second consecutive year the Canberra native has missed his home major. On the opening day of play at Melbourne Park this year, Kyrgios was forced to pull out due to a left knee injury and later underwent arthoscopic surgery to address the issue.

He returned to make his 2023 debut in Stuttgart, falling to Wu Yibing, but then pulled out as Wimbledon was about to get underway with a new setback: a torn ligament in his right wrist.

Kyrgios hasn’t appeared on the ATP Tour since then as he’s worked through rehabbing the injury, though recently joined Tennis Channel’s broadcast team for the Nitto ATP Finals. Having enjoyed his experience, the 28-year-old will put on his commentating hat again for local television in January when the Happy Slam commences.
