After beating Milos Raonic 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-0 to win his first Tokyo title, Japan’s Kei Nishikori is beside himself.
"I'm partying tonight!" the 22-year-old said. "I'd thought the Gods were against me at this event in the past. To win the title is amazing. I'm overwhelmed.”
ATP sponsor Corona also presented Nishikori with a year’s worth of beer.
"I don't know what I'm going to do with a year's worth of Corona beer," Nishikori said. "I don't even like beer."
Nishikori will rise to a career-high No. 15 in the rankings. "I'd never played well in Japan but since beating Tomas Berdych (in the quarterfinals), I felt I'd broken that wall down,” Nishikori said. “To reach the Top 10 is my target now.”
