After his Davis Cup victory over Peter Polansky, Japan’s Kei Nishikori says "it took a lot of courage" for top-ranked Canadian Milos Raonic to pull out of the tie with an ankle injury.
"Raonic being out gives us a chance," Nishikori told reporters. "He's ranked higher than me. It took a lot of courage for him to pull out. There's a lot of pressure in the Davis Cup.”
The tie is being played in Tokyo and is currently 1-1 after Canada’s Frank Dancevic defeated Go Soeda. Canada’s No. 2 Vasek Pospisil was forced out of the singles due to a back injury; Canadian reporter Tom Tebbutt writes that he is unlikely to play doubles with Daniel Nestor on Saturday. “It appears Dancevic will partner Daniel Nestor,” says Tebbutt.
