BOGOTA(AP) Second-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain retired with a right elbow injury to advance Betina Jozami of Argentina into her first quarterfinals in a year at the Copa Colsanitas on Thursday.

Jozami was leading 4-0 when the Spaniard, who beat Venus Williams en route to the Australian Open quarterfinals, stopped the second-round match.

``I've been undergoing physiotherapy and withdrew from the doubles on Wednesday in hopes of improving but it was no good,'' Suarez Navarro said.

Jozami reached the Copa semifinals in 2008 as a qualifier in her first and last appearance in a WTA Tour main draw.

In the quarterfinals, she will play seventh-seeded Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain, one of only three seeds to make the last eight.

Martinez Sanchez defeated wild card compatriot Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-4, 6-3.

Third-seeded Gisela Dulko came from behind to beat Paraguay veteran Rossana de los Rios 5-7, 6-1, 6-3, despite 13 double faults.

Next up for Dulko, the highest remaining seed and chasing her fourth career title, will be sixth-seeded Mathilde Johansson of France, who routed Hungarian qualifier Katalin Marosi 6-4, 6-1.

In the other quarterfinals, Masa Zec Peskiric of Slovenia, who knocked out top-seeded Flavia Pennetta, meets Edina Gallovits of Romania, and Patricia Mayr of Austria plays Ioana Raluca Olaru of Romania.
