Ons Jabeur is opening up about the extent of her Wimbledon heartbreak in a new documentary.

Producer Matt Critchley shared a teaser trailer on Thursday for Ons Jabeur, a Star from Tunisia, a film chronicling Jabeur’s rise to the top of women’s tennis and her ongoing quest to win a first major title.

“Sometimes I really doubt myself, I don’t know if I can do it,” says Jabeur, who peaked at No. 2 in the WTA rankings in 2022. “The fact that I would be letting people down, I think that would affect me more than anything else.”

Jabeur has reached three Grand Slam finals in the last two years, and was a clear favorite to win the 2023 Wimbledon Championships after stunning would-be world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals.

Instead, she played a nervous match and was reduced to tears following a straight-sets defeat to Marketa Vondrousova—a loss that carried even higher stakes than the tennis world previously knew.

“It was the tournament where I said…I’m going to win it and then maybe take a break and have a baby,” reveals the 29-year-old, who has been married to Tunisian fencer Karim Kamoun since 2015.

“So not only not winning Wimbledon, but the idea of having a baby vanished with the trophy.”

Though she qualified for a second straight WTA Finals in Cancun, that disappointment haunted Jabeur for much of what remained from the 2023 season, causing her to finish outside the world’s Top 5.

Still, Jabeur sounds resolved to press onward in 2024, inspired by a home nation willing her to victory.

“Part of me playing and part of me being Ons Jabeur is being Tunisian, and that blood will help me win and make history.”

Ons Jabeur, a Star from Tunisia will be available to stream on TOD TV.
