BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) Sixth-seeded Guido Pella of Argentina defeated wild card Adrian Ungur of Romania 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the the Nastase Tiriac Trophy on Monday.

On the first day of the clay-court tournament, the 2013 champion Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic was eliminated by Briton Kyle Edmund, who hit 11 aces in the 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) victory.

''I played well on the big points especially in the tiebreaks,'' the 92nd-ranked Edmund said.

In other matches, Taro Daniel of Japan eased past qualifier Michael Linzer of Austria 6-2, 6-0 and Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia defeated another Romanian wild card, Marius Copil, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
