BOSTON (AP)—Mark Philippoussis beat John McEnroe on Sunday to win the Champions Cup for his first career title on the Champions Series tour.
Philippoussis won the first set 6-3, but McEnroe took the second 6-4 to force the Champions tiebreaker, where the first player to 10 points wins the match. Philippoussis, 33, won six of the last seven points to beat the 51-year-old McEnroe 10-5 for the title.
Jim Courier beat Bjorn Borg 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the third-place match. The 53-year-old Borg, who won five consecutive Wimbledon championships from 1976-1980, was playing competitively in the United States for the first time in 10 years.
Philippoussis earned $60,000 for winning the tournament for 30-and-over players.
