Rookie Coco Vandeweghe on her loss to Francesca Schiavone: “I am disappointed in myself. I'm disappointed that I let the team down a little bit. Of course, I'd like to start out with a win in the first tie. That I didn't do that, of course I was upset. I had my time to kind of vent a little bit, just to kind of let out my emotions a little bit.”
Schiavone on whether she likes being a favored player now that she’s a Grand Slam champion: “Yes, because I stayed in the other position for long. Now is time to stay here in this side. It’s exciting. I think I can hold these kinds of things also because I am 30 years old. I am good experience. I am good physically. Mentally I grow up a lot. It's time to be in this part of the play.”
Italian captain Corrado Barazzutti on why his team has reached four out of the past five finals: “The reason is I have great players. That is the secret of this team. They are very, very good.” —M.C.
