PARIS (AP)—Robby Ginepri has knocked off 18th-seeded Sam Querrey in an all-American match in the French Open’s first round.
The 98th-ranked Ginepri beat Querrey 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-2 Tuesday to reach the second round at Roland Garros for only the second time in eight appearances at the clay-court Grand Slam tournament.
Ginepri, of Kennesaw, Ga., hadn’t won a match on clay this season.
Querrey, of Santa Monica, Calif., had been playing well on clay, including winning a title this month in Belgrade, Serbia. But his career mark at the French Open is now 0-4.
